Happy BO Day

I’m sure some of you clicked on this link saying “What in the world is BO Day?” No, it is not a day where you forgo wearing your choice of deodorant.

This day means almost nothing to all of you. But like it or not, it is a special day!

Well my friends, what makes this day so special is that this is the one year anniversary of Blind Owl Blogs! (Please hold your applause).

What a year it has been. Personally, it has been quite the roller coaster. I got a new job and got married. But the real important things that have happened have been BO Blog related. Let’s take a retrospective look at how the blog has grown since its inception in the tumultuous year of 2020.

Now, where to begin? The first blog of course. It was on October 10th, 2020 that I posted the “Welcome” blog. Just for some reference, read that here: https://www.blindowlblogs.com/post/welcome

If we are being honest, this isn’t the first blog I wrote. It is actually the 2nd. I wrote “Pushing Too Hard? Just Let It Go” before even starting Blind Owl Blogs. You can read that here: https://www.blindowlblogs.com/post/pushing-too-hard-just-let-it-go

That actually ended up being the 3rd I posted. Hindsight being 20/20 (for me being about 20/100), I probably should have posted it as the original blog. But I decided to go with a generic welcome message instead. Oh well.

Now let’s look at some totals. There have been 127 blogs posted on blindowlblogs.com. The great majority of them have been by me. But we can’t forget those who have contributed. Whether it be Brendawn of the Dead, Concret3Cowboy or Galeophobic Shark, the BO Blog contributors have all put their opinions out there for all to see. Some I agree with, some I wholeheartedly disagree with. That’s what I appreciate most about this blog. I’m sure there are a lot of things I’ve said that those three disagree with, but they still took their time to write something up. For that I thank them.

When I started BO Blogs, I figured it would be mostly sports with a bit of politics and maybe some media stuff. I thought my sports stuff would be the focal point of the site itself. Well, I was wrong. The sports blogs have actually been the lowest viewed.

Turns out, the blogs that have had the highest views are the ones about the media. The highest viewed blog of the year was “Allbright is Not Alright” which is a piece about well known and proven liar Benjamin Allbright. Not only did this get the most views, mostly thanks to a retweet from Barstool Sports Podcaster Kirk Minihane, but it also got Allbright to threaten a lawsuit. If you’d like to reread that frauds lies do that here: https://www.blindowlblogs.com/post/allbright-is-not-alright

Some of the other media stuff I’ve written has been the most viewed on the site. That includes the various blogs about the dreadful Boston Globe and various Boston radio drama. These blogs were incredibly fun for me to write and I truly enjoy getting the responses (both positive and negative) from those I wrote about. For those who refused to answer I say, go pound sand.

It is great to see a big number of views and likes, but the best part of this blog has been the ability to write whatever I want, whenever I want. This doesn’t mean I just get to sound off on football teams and newspapers, but it means that if something means a lot to me, I write it and share it with the world.

A prime example of this is the blog “Real Renegades.” This blog tells the story of how I found Beep Baseball and how much it means to me to be playing a sport designed for those who are blind and visually impaired. Quite honestly, I didn’t care if this got any views at all. I wrote it to show how much the game impacted my life and what not having a season in 2020 did to my mental health. It turns out people actually liked it and it became one of the most popular blogs on the site. Read that here: https://www.blindowlblogs.com/post/real-renegades

Blind Owl Blogs has had its share of ups and downs. At one point I took a 2 week break from posting. Meanwhile, there have been times this year where I wrote 3 blogs in one day. Even right now, we are on a bit of a slower cycle because of a whole bunch of things going on in real life. But the weekly NFL picks from Concret3Cowboy and I have been a fun project. (Not to mention I’m dominating in that by the way).

All of this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our great sponsor CC Painting. Chris has been a constant supporter of the blog, being our first and only sponsor in its young life. Not only has he supported it, but he is a loyal reader and gives it all the promotion he can. I look forward to continuing the great partnership with him, with some new ideas coming down the road.

I also have to thank my buddy Jon down in Scranton for making the official logo of the blog so I didn’t have to keep using one I grabbed off of Google.

I’ll say this, if anyone has anything to say, Blind Owl Blogs is always looking for more content. If you have anything to say, feel free to reach out via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or email at blindowlblogs@gmail.com. We’ve covered all topics from sports, politics, gambling, gaming and even business. So whatever it is you have to say, send it this way.

All of that being said, I have to thank all of the readers, Twitter followers, Facebook users and Instagramers who have supported BO Blogs. It has gone from something that I do for fun and only read by my close friends and family, to something I am actually having success with. It has caused a little controversy in my life and I’m sure it will do so in the future, but I wouldn’t change it.

I’ll end this with one message. To those who enjoy Blind Owl Blogs, I have no plans to stop writing anytime soon, and you can look forward to all kinds of blogs (and maybe some other things) coming soon. To those who hate Blind Owl Blogs, I have no plans to stop writing anytime soon, so you can continue to not like it and go piss into the wind.
