I think all good rational people love a good vaccine. Except those idiot anti-vaxxer troglodytes who got fooled by a British doctor who jus blatantly made stuff up. That’s a topic for another day.
The COVID-19 vaccine has been ruining things for a lot of people for the majority of this year. We’ve all been avoiding big gatherings, going out to eat and a great number of folks have even lost their jobs. People have been hoping and praying to various deities for a vaccine to come along. Now, we have at least 2 viable vaccines being given to people. We will all get it at some point, whether you like it or not. The question now becomes who gets it first.
Humans are naturally selfish. As much as people like to think they’re not, it is just true. Anyone with a brain in their head thinks they should get the vaccine before someone else. Some of us are intelligent humans though, and know they’re not high on the list. I’ll use myself as an example. I’m 28 and in relatively good shape. I shouldn’t be anywhere near the top of the list to get it. The people who should be getting it first thing are the healthcare workers who are forced to be exposed. Whether that be nurses, doctors, EMTs or even police officers. Then it should be the older folks who have a bigger chance of dying from COVID. Then we can discuss where it should go after these people are covered.
You know who it shouldn’t go to? Low risk individuals. You know those 20 and 30 something politicians who think they are more important than those who are working their asses off to keep people healthy.
And yet, here we are. On Instagram, we see Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez getting the COVID-19 vaccine. She shouldn’t even be close to the top of the list. This isn’t some kind of political statement. I’ll say the same thing if some young, Republican representative gets the vaccine. This is a case of a persons ego out of control.
I am a little biased here. Both of my parents are front line workers and totally deserve the vaccine more than some hack politician.
On the same train of thought, both President Donald Trump and President-elect Joe Biden got the vaccine as well. This makes a little more sense, they are both the leaders of the free world, whether you like it or not. Also, they both belong in a nursing home, so they probably would’ve got it anyways.
Those low-risk politicians that argued for months over giving Americans a relief package that was desperately needed because of the lockdowns they imposed, should be some of the last people in the country to get the vaccine. They sat around while the majority of us struggled to make ends meet, and collected their checks. They can easily do their job from home and quarantine like the rest of us have been forced to do. This goes for both parties. Do they think a measly $600 is enough to pacify us so they can get their shots and be protected while the rest of us continue to struggle? Not to mention none of them follow the rules they’ve instated on all of us.
It is just simple proof of the old statement. power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
